Mrs. Atkins, a Southampton County native, had lived in Smithfield since 1949. Survivors include her husband, Richard M. Atkins; a son, Donald P. Horne of Smithfield; her mother, Cora B. Babb, and stepfather, J. Milton Babb, of Ivor; a sister, Frances B. Reynolds, and a brother, James W. Brown, both of Smithfield; and a grandson. A graveside service was conducted Saturday in St. Luke’s Memorial Park by the Rev. Donald Rhoton and Warren F. Taylor. Colonial Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Isle of Wight County Volunteer Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Research Center in care of Mrs. J.L.
