EFFIE JOHNSON BETTS 

ESTIMABLE LADY DIES AFTER VERY BRIEF SICKNESS 

MRS. EFFIE JOHNSON BETTS, 
  WIFE OF CHARLES S. BETTS OF SMITHFIELD DIES MONDAY 

  On Monday morning, July 22, the sad news of the death of Mrs. Effie Johnson 
Betts, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Johnson and wife of Charles S. 
Betts, of Smithfield was received.

  Mrs. Betts had been in ill health for several weeks, and was taken to the 
hospital Saturday, where it was hoped an operation would restore her to health.

  The deceased is survived by her husband, Charles S. Betts; two daughters, 
Elizabeth and Virginia Betts, and one son, Charles S. Betts, Jr., and a large 
number of relatives and friends.

  Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the 
residence on Main Street, conducted by Dr. L.F. Paulette, pastor of Smithfield 
Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member, and burial was in Ivy Hill 
Cemetery.
