Vernon Avenue, Portsmouth, after a lingering illness. He was a native of Isle of Wight County, but had lived in Portsmouth for the last 13 years. Mr. Butler was the son of late James M. and Elizabeth V. Butler. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R.S. Daughtrey and Miss Nettie V. Butler, of Portsmouth; two sons, J.Q. and G.C. Butler of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. B.C. Eley, of Nansemond County; two half sisters, Mrs. F.M. Pierce, of Driver, and Mrs. J.E. Rose of Carrsville; a grandson, Bennie Ray Daughtrey, of Portsmouth, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Butler held membership in Western Branch Baptist Church, in Nansemond County. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the residence in Portsmouth. Burial will take place in the Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Nansemond County.
