All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SOLOMON VALENTINE BUTLER HEART ATTACK KILLS EX-DEPUTY SHERIFF IN CARRSVILLE HOME Solomon Valentine Butler, Sr., 72, former deputy sheriff of Isle of Wight County and at the time of his death a special officer for the county and for Camp Manufacturing Co., died at the residence of Carrsville on Tuesday, April 29, as the result of a heart attack. Mr. Butler, better known as "Demas," was the son of the late Solomon and Alice Rebecca Johnson Butler of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Rose Butler of Carrsville; two daughters, Mrs. James R. Duck of Franklin and Mrs. William M. Williams of Norfolk; a son, Solomon V. Butler, Jr., of Owens, King George County; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock by Revs. Edwin C. Thornton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and N.C. Clifton of Elberon, Surry County, a former pastor. Interment was in the Beaver Dam Church cemetery, the active pallbearers being Herman Beale, T.B. Bell, W.L. Burrow, Clyde Cutchin, George Hall, Russell Laine, W.G. O’Brien and A.E.S. Stephens. ****************************************************************************** Solomon Butler, 72, Of Carrsville Buried May 1st Solomon Valentine Butler Sr., 72, former deputy sheriff of Isle of Wight County, and at the time of his death, a special officer for the county and the Camp Manufacturing Company, died at his home at Carrsville April 29th as the result of a heart attack. Mr. Butler, better known as "Dumas," was the son of the late Solomon and Alice Rebecca Johnson Butler, of Isle of Wight County. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Rose Butler, of Carrsville; two daughters, Mrs. James R. Duck, of Franklin, and Mrs. William M. Williams, of Norfolk; a son, Solomon V. Butler of Owens; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland and Sons funeral home, where services were conducted at 3 P.M. Thursday, May 1st, with the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton, pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and the Rev. N.C. Clifton, pastor of Elberon Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Beaver Dam church cemetery.
