Bowden, resident of California and native of Virginia, aged 60 years, one month and one day. Following an illness of eight months or more, during which trying period the the hands of loved ones were never tiring in their effort to bring rellief or a restoration of health, if it were possible, the deceased passed away at the family home, 409 North Douty street, between 5 and 6 o'clock last evening, as the result of a pulmonary abscess, which terminated in tuberculosis. Her passing takes from the bereaved household, a loving wife and kind, sacrificing christian mother, one whose best efforts have ever been exerted to bring happiness and comfort to those whom she loved. The deceased was born in Isle of Wight county, Virginia, in 1851, and remained a resident thereof until a little over four years ago, when the family came to California, settling in this city, where they have resided ever since. Though of comparatively short residence here, the deceased had endeared herself to many, and her demise is the source of deepest regret to all. About six weeks ago it was determined by the physicians that if any treatment could bring about recovery, it would be that consisting of an operation. She was therefore removed to the Hanford sanitarium and a very difficult operation was performed. This for a time brought about a change for the better, but it was of but temporary character, and her strength was so impaired that she was unable to throw off her disease. She passed gradually away, the end coming very peacefully. She leaves a husband, four sons, three daughters and one grandson here, besides one brother and many other relatives in Virginia. The surviving brother is James Whitehead, and the children are A. Elizabeth, John B., Eustace Q., F. Judson, Ambrose B. And Lucy A. Bowden and Mrs. J. Larry Smith. The surviving grandchild is Floyd Thornberry Bowden. The funeral services will be held from the family home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, interment to be made in Hanford cemetery.
