All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY ELIZABETH SAUNDERS BOWDEN ZUNI - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Saunders Bowden, 68, well-known resident of the Zuni community, Isle of Wight County, and wife of James Henry Bowden, died Friday at 5 p.m. at her home after an illness of many months. She was a daughter of Allie and Mrs. Alice Duke Saunders of Isle of Wight County. She was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and was active in all its activities. Besides her husband, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.L. Bowden, Jr., and Mrs. L.H. Alphin Jr., both of Zuni, two sons, James Howard Bowden of Windsor and Bryon Hurford Bowden of Newport News; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Hugh Saunders of Zuni and W.E. Saunders of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. A.G. Parsons of Pocomoke City, Md. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in Franklin and on Sunday was placed in Colosse Baptist Church two hours prior to funeral hour. Funeral services were conducted at the church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Donald E. Trump, pastor, and the Rev. J. Sidney Cobb, former pastor, of Windsor, and the Rev. J. Waverly Horne, pastor of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. Burial was in Colosse Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Georgia Bowden, Lloyd Spivey, Shelby Rhodes, Eldridge Turner, Johnny Midgett, Aubrey Garrison, Ralph Bowden and Loftin Rhodes. Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" (SAUNDERS; Mrs. James H.)
