JAMES HENRY BOWDEN

   James Henry Bowden, 82, resident of the Windsor and Zuni community, died in 
Obici Hospital Friday morning after illness of several weeks.

   He was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Saunders Bowden and a 
son of Dempsey and Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Babb Bowden of Isle of Wight County.

   He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and its Men’s Bible Class and of 
Windsor Masonic Lodge.

   Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John R. Bowden and Mrs. L.H. Alphin of 
Zuni; two sons James Howard Bowden of Windsor and Bryon H. Bowden of Newport 
News; eight grandchildren; one brother, Mills D. Bowden of Carrsville; and 
five sisters, Mrs. Florida Turner and Mrs. Joseph Johnson of Walters, Mrs. 
Horace Spivey of Windsor, Mrs. Ella Cones of Suffolk and Mrs. Lula Vaughan of 
Norfolk.

   A funeral service was held in Colosse Baptist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. by 
his pastor the Rev. Donald E. Trump; the Rev. Sidney Cobb, former Windsor 
pastor; and the Rev. J. Waverly Horne, pastor of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. 
Burial was in Colosse Church cemetery.

   Pallbearers were Shelby Rhodes, Loftin Rhodes, Georgia Bowden, Ralph 
Bowden, Raby Turner, Lloyd Spivey, Keith Johnson and Raymond Vaughan.
