    MRS. LOU EMMA BATTEN 

  Suffolk, April 23. - The funeral services of Mrs. Lou Emma Batten, who died 
in the 63rd year of her age, were held yesterday afternoon at Antioch 
Christian church, conducted by Rev H.H. Butler, Rev. W.W. Staley, Mrs. and Mr. 
Lewis of the Methodist church and Dr. I.W. Johnson. 

  The choir of the church sang "Abide With Me," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and 
Mrs. J.M. Darden sang the solo, "Face to Face."  There were numerous beautiful 
floral tributes.  Interment was made in Antioch cemetery.

Her father was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in 
   Co. D, 16th VA Infantry. 

Her husband was also a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in 
   Co. A, 19th Battalion VA Heavy Artillery.
