Bell, prominent man of the Suffolk section, was found lying by the side of his car on the county road, near Chuckatuck, Nansemond County, Thursday morning between 6 and 7 o'clock with a bullet hole through his head. Foul play was first suspected, but later it developed that the deceased came to his death from self inflicted wounds. Mr. Bell, a native of Isle of Wight County, was at one time a widely known peanut buyer for a Smithfield firm and at the time of his death was land assessor for district No. 2. John Wesley BELL, land assessor, former peanut buyer, Isle of Wight Co. native, suicide 6 May 1920, near Chuckatuck, age 49, interred in Whitehead's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery*, 8 May 1920, "The Alexandria (VA) Gazette," Vol. 136, No. 112, May 10, 1920 *His widow Lucy J. (VAUGHAN) BELL and parents Geo.Thos. & Agnes (PARR) BELL are buried there also.
