JOHN E. BAILEY 

TRAGIC INFANTS DEATH 

  This entire community was saddened when it learned of the accidental 
suffocation of John E. Bailey, three-month old infant son of Mr. and Mrs. 
Robert J. Bailey, who reside on New Road in Smithfield. 

  Mrs. Bailey fed the baby at 6 o'clock Sunday morning and put him back in 
his crib at the foot of the bed.  About an hour and a half later Mrs. Bailey 
asked her husband to take the baby up and it was then that the tragic accident 
was discovered. 

  Mr. and Mrs. Bailey are well known residents here and Mr. Bailey is 
caretaker at the Smithfield High School.  The couple have one other child. 

  The body of the infant was removed to the Roberts & Johnson Funeral Home 
where it remained until 1:45 Tuesday afternoon when it was taken to Mill Swamp 
Baptist Church Cemetery where funeral and burial services were conducted with 
the Rev. L.F. Paulette, pastor of the Smithfield Baptist Church, officiating.

   his date of death is given wrong on the cemetery list.

His paternal grandmother, Sarah "Sallie" (JOHNSON) BAILEY is buried in 
   Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. 

John's parents, James Robert & Myrtle Eva (BALDWIN) BAILEY, & J.R. Jr., 
   are buried in Williamsburg Memorial Park.  A photo of his parents' marker 
   is posted with their Find a Grave Memorials, #57894243 & #57894260. 

They m. 25 Dec 1937, in Suffolk (IoW.Co. #130).
