BELL, DIES Joseph Edward Bell, 60, 320 Red Point Drive, died Monday at his residence following a short illness. A native of Smithfield, Bell served for twenty years as Smithfield's postmaster prior to his retirement in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II [sic; I]. He was a member of the George F. Dashiell Post No. 49, the American Legion, of Smithfield Baptist Church and the Smithfield Union Lodge No. 18. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth S. Bell; a son, Robert Lawrence Bell of Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Fox of Hampton and Mrs. Martha Gale of Norfolk; two brothers, Wilton I. Bell, Smithfield, and B. Thomas Bell, Jr., Richmond; and two grandchildren.
