A resident of Windsor, she was the daughter of the late William Ashley Gay and Dora Ann Turner Gay. She was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and retired in 1997 from Windsor High School where she worked in the cafeteria. Mrs. Beale is predeceased by her husband, Newman R. Beale Sr. and a son, Newman R. Beale Jr. She is survived by daughters, Nancy Hedgepeth and her husband, Larry, of Windsor, Barbara Thornton and her husband, Richard, of Richmond; daughter-in- law, Shelby Beale of Windsor; sisters, Virginia Vassar of Windsor and Martha Pippins of Suffolk; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Basil "Buzz" Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home of Nancy and Larry Hedgepeth, 103 Weaver Court, Windsor.
