All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Mrs. Clara Virginia Bloxom Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Virginia Bloxom, of Battery Park, Isle of Wight County, who died on Thursday at the home of her niece Mrs. Granger, of Hilton Village, were held at Battery Park Baptist church Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. L.F. Paulette. Mrs. Bloxom, age 76, was one of the most prominent women of Isle of Wight county, and before her marriage to the late W.E. Bloxom, was Miss Latimer of Isle of Wight. She was a native of Hampton and is survived by four sons, E.L. Bloxon of Newport News; W.E. Bloxom of Fox Hill, M.T. Bloxom and O.A. Bloxom of Battery Park; five daughters, Mrs. Maud J. Foster, Mrs. N.F. Carter, Mrs. Ruth Clarke of Battery Park; Mrs. Elmer Clarke of Smithfield; Mrs. O.G. Allen at Hampton; also 28 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were the sons-in-law and grandson-in-law of the deceased, O.G. Allen, George Foster, Mack Carter, J.W. Brock, Hawthorne Granger; honorary pallbearers were grandsons and nephews, Lee Bloxom, Walter Cleveland, Indred Lawless, and Paul Bloxom, Hunter and Raymond Brock, Bennie Brock, Henry Allen, Clarence Bloxom, Frank and Bruce Latimer. The choir of Battery Park Baptist church sang the hymns "Lead Kindly Light," "O, Think of the Home Over There" and "Sleep on Beloved," and Mrs. Cleveland Bloxom sang the solo "After." There were many handsome floral offerings among a pall of lilies and ferns from her sons. Interment was in Battery Park cemetery. D.Cert. 19819 (Hilton #55) gives daughter of Thomas LATIMER & [illegible; transcribed as "Alma Darter," which is definitely wrong]. The D.Cert. 1914-6044 (Richmond #586) of her brother Charles J. LATIMER gives son of Thomas LATIMER & Elizabeth CURTISS. Her father (1824 - 1903) was a Confederate veteran, having served as private, & later commissioned Captain, in Co. A, 32nd VA Infantry. He is buried in St. John's Church Cemetery, Hampton.
