CHARLIE CRAWFORD BLAND

   Charlie Crawford Bland, 75, a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, 
died late Sunday at Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after an illness of 
several months.

   He was the husband of Mrs. Ogie Ann Bland and the son of the late Robert 
and Shirley* Harcum Bland of Walters.

   A retired farmer of Walters, Mr. Bland was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian 
Church, where he had served as a deacon for a number of years.  He had also 
been sexton more than 35 years.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, C. Allen Bland of 
Windsor; three daughters, Mrs. W.L. Redd of Walters, Mrs. William Ricks of 
Portsmouth and Mrs. Herman Stephenson of Windsor; 15 grandchildren, six great-
grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Mt. Carmel Christian 
Church, Walters, with Rev. G.C. Crutchfield officiating.  Burial was in the 
church cemetery.

   Active pallbearers were Frank Johnson, Fred Johnson, Fenton Beale, Taylor 
Holland, Robert Simmons, Sherman Johnson, L.C. Stephenson, Jasper Carr.
