Former Walters Resident Dies 

  FRANKLIN, March 10. - Mrs. Mamie Butler Bland, 73, former resident of 
Walters, died at the home of daughter Mrs. Clyde G. Johnson, of Holland, 
this morning after an illness of many months. 

  Mrs. Bland was the daughter of the late Josiah and Sallie Ann Gay Pierce, 
of Isle of Wight County.  She was married twice, her first marriage being 
to Richard A. Butler, of Windsor, and to this union were born three children, 
Mrs. Clyde G. Johnson, of Holland, R. Sherman Butler, of Carrsville, and 
Roland Butler, who preceded his mother in death in 1947. 

  She was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, of Walters, and the Woman's 
Missionary Society, of which she was a charter member. 

  Besides her children she is survived by five grandchildren and 1 great-
grandchild; two brothers, H.B. and C.G. Pierce of Windsor; and one sister, 
Mrs. R.A. Jenkins, of Windsor. 

  Funeral services will he held Tuesday [sic; Thursday] afternoon at 3:30 
o'clock at Antioch Christian Church near Windsor by Rev. H.E. Crutchfield, 
Rev. H.L. Foster, and Dr. W.B. O'Neil, all of Holland.  Interment will be in 
the church cemetery.

  Mrs. Mannie Butler Bland, 73, former resident of Walters, died at the home 
of her daughter, Mrs. Clyde G. Johnson of Holland, on March 9th after an 
illness of many months. 

  Mrs. Bland was the daughter of the late Josiah and Sallie Ann Gay Pierce 
of Isle of Wight County.  She was married twice.  Her first marriage was to 
Richard A. Butler of Windsor and to this union were born three children, Mrs. 
Clyde G. Johnson, of Holland, R. Sherman Butler, of Carrsville, and Roland 
Butler, who preceded his mother in death in 1947.  In 1938 she married the 
late James S. Bland of Walters. 

  Mrs. Bland was a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church of Walters and the 
Woman's Missionary Society, of which she was a charter member. 

  Besides her children, she is survived by five grandchildren and one great-
grandchild; two brothers, H.B. and C.G. Pierce of Windsor, and one sister, 
Mrs. R.A. Jenkins of Windsor. 

  Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, March 11th, at Antioch 
Christian Church, near Windsor, by Rev. H.E. Crutchfield, Rev. H.L. Foster 
and Dr. W.B. O'Neil, all of Holland.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
