Edwin C. Thornton Jr. Burial was in the church cemetery with W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Roland Whitley, Elwood Gavin, Matthew Duke, Rice Day, William Garrisom, Tilman Jenkins, William Rose, John Edward Rose and Walter Johnson. Bracey, 72, died early Thursday in Greensville Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he lived near Carrsville until 1964, when he moved to Emporia. He was the husband of Mrs. Cora Carr Bracey and a son of Jacob H. and Mrs. Sarah Garrison Bracey. He was a member and former deacon of Beaver Dam Baptist church and a member of its Men’s Bible Class. Besides his widow, surviving are a son, James F. Bracey Jr. of Holland; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Harris of Emporia and Miss Mildred Bracey of Petersburg; a brother, Martin L. Bracey of Baltimore; five grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
