LELIA MINTON BROCK FUNERAL HELD MONDAY FOR WIDOW OF DR. L.C. BROCK, LONG IDENTIFIED WITH CIVIC, RELIGIOUS AND SOCIAL LIFE. Funeral services were held Monday, May 4 in the Smithfield Baptist Church at 3:30 for Mrs. Lelia Minton Brock, 57. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L.F. Paulette assisted by the Rev. William Brayshaw. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Brock passed away Saturday afternoon at 4:30 after an illness of several months. She was the daughter of the late Claudius Taylor Minton and Irene Carpenter Minton of Nansemond County. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eunice Minton Whitley wife of Geo. F. Whitley, Smithfield attorney and two nephews George Franklin, Jr., a senior law student at the University of Virginia and Claude Minton Whitley, senior at University of Richmond. Mrs. Brock was one of the most outstanding women in her section. She was a woman of able leadership wide influence, great personal charm and ready wit. She was a public spirited citizen always interested in everything which made for the improvement of her community. She leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. Brock was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church, Counsellor of its young Women’s Auxiliary for the past fifteen years and President of the Ladies’ Aid Society for twenty years; a member at the Smithfield Woman’s Club and chairman of the Civic Department, secretary of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Hundreds of friends attended the funeral services Monday afternoon. The flowers were handsome and numerous. Active pallbearers were: W.P. Warren, Dr. Wilson Ames, F.B. Simpson, Jr., W.H. Sykes, Jr., Dr. Rae Parker, John I. Cofer, Jr., C.C. Howell and Lee W. Morton. Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were: Colonel and Mrs. Parke P. Deans, of Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Loraine of Winston - Salem North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Saunders of Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Godwin Jr., and Irene Minton Godwin of Richmond; Mr. and Mrs. Crawley Joyner of Richmond; Miss Fanita Bidgood of Norfolk, Judge and Mrs. B.D. White of Norfolk, Mr. Norman Hamilton of Portsmouth, Mrs. T.S. Dunaway of Accomack, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dye, of Virginia Beach, Mr. and Mrs. David Rawls of Virginia Beach; Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Darden of Suffolk, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie B. Godwin, Dr. and Mrs. Whitney Godwin, Mr. and Mrs. George Ben Stott all of Suffolk. Dr. Buxton and Dr. Davis of Newport News, Mr. Henry Hutcheson of Taphannock, Virginia. Mrs. A.
