He was born in Isle of Wight County, VA, the son of the late Lofton Braswell [sic*] and Anna Pearl Cobb Braswell Joyner. He was predeceased by his sister, Mae Rhodes Smith Joyner. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served during WWII. He later went on to work and retire as a farmer. He was a member of Antioch Church where he actively served as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Song Leader, and on numerous other committees. He was a former member of the Windsor Ruritan Club. Tom is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Foster Braswell, daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Raymond Brock; son, Lofton Braswell; grandchildren, Charles Brock (Brooke), Katie Zephir, Lucas Braswell, Jesse Braswell, and Kristie Braswell Miller (Michael); great grandchildren, Grayson, Maddison, Thomas, Leeanne, and Weston; sister, Elizabeth Hobbs; and numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Church, 23011 Antioch Rd., Windsor, VA 23487 with Pastor Lindsay Poteat and Pastor John Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday night for a visitation from 6-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. They raised Tom after the death of his father. Layton's birth father, Charles Benjamin BROWN, his in-laws, Benjamin Madison & Martha Pearl (BARRETT) COBB, & his adoptive parents are also buried at Antioch. Layton burned to death sleeping in his car by the side of the road, 23 Nov 1936. He was buried in a BRASWELL family cemetery in Isle of Wight Co. - site not known (Sep 2022) to the IWCHS or SCHS Cemetery Project.
