All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Funeral Thursday For Mrs. Barrett Funeral services for Mrs. Ava Darden Barrett, 54, who died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Phillip Rountree, 208 Chestnut Street, after an illness of five months, will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the I.O. Hill and Co. Funeral Home by Dr. H.S. Hardcastle. Burial will be in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Isle of Wight County, her parents were William Washington Darden, and the late Mrs. Martha Catherine Parker Darden, of Carrsville. She was the wife of the late Walter Strouse Barrett. Besides her daughter and father, surviving are four other daughters, Mrs. Mitchell Bounds and Mrs. Frank Buppert, both of Chuckatuck; Mrs. Manley Rountree, of Portsmouth; Miss Betty Jean Barrett, of Suffolk; one son, Walter Edward Barrett, of Lake Bay, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. A.J. Cobb and Mrs. R.T. Harrison, both of Newport News; nine grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Oakland Christian Church, of Chuckatuck.
