Birdsong, 83, who died Sunday night at 8 o'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jesse Whitley, on Bosley avenue, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Antioch Church, conducted by Dr. Howard, assisted by the Revs. H.S. Hardcastle, E.B. White and C.E. Pleasants. She was the widow of Sidney Birdsong, of Isle of Wight county, and the daughter of the late Clement Batten, of that county. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Whitley, Mrs. J.A. Branch, of Norfolk, and Mrs. L. Ashburn, of Isle of Wight county; one brother, Fenton Batten, of Hampton, and the following stepchildren: Thomas H. Birdsong, of this city, Dr. W.S. Birdsong, of Courtland, Silas and Rosser Birdsong, of New York, and Miss Nannie Birdsong, of this city. ****************************************************************************** Mrs. Birdsong Is Laid to Rest Today Active pallbearers for Mrs. A.S. Birdsong, whose funeral was held today at 2 o'clock from the Antioch Church in Isle of Wight county were William Birdsong, Thomas Birdsong, Trafton Whitley, Martin Whitley, Floyd Batten, W.H. Johnson, Robert E. Hodsden, and J.H. Branch. Honorary pallbearers were Robert A. Horne, Dr. R. Lee Seward, George W. Delk, Dr. O.R. Yates, Dr. William T. Gay, Leon Lewis, Richard Turner, Eddie Holloman, Tom Land, W.E. Garrison and Robert Sadler. ****************************************************************************** SOCIAL [...] Mrs. Bettie M. Carr, 73, widow of D.M. [sic; D.W.] Carr, died Saturday at her home in the county after a long illness. She is survived by four sons, five daughters and a brother, Jesse Thomas of Abingdon, formerly of Smithfield. Funeral services were held at Antioch Christian Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the Rev. E.B. White. Burial was in the Church cemetery.
