PATSY ELIZABETH BUTLER BARTLETT

     MRS. PATSY BUTLER BARTLETT, 83, retired district manager of North America 
Assurance Society of Virginia, died Friday in a hospital.

     Born in Isle of Wight County, she lived in Norfolk most of her life.  She 
was the widow of Laban W. Bartlett and a daughter of Donaphan E. and Mrs. 
Alice Mathews Butler.

     She retired from insurance work in 1954 after having been with North 
America Assurance Society since its inception.

     Long active in school work, she was the first president of Portlock 
Parent Teacher Association, now in a South Norfolk Borough of Chesapeake.

     She attended the old Berkley Military Institute and helped organize the 
Alumnae Association which held its last reunion here in 1959.

     She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. P. Lawrence Edmonds, Mrs. Howard 
D. Evans and Mrs. Lewis V. Rosier of Norfolk and Mrs. Raymond S. Talbott of 
Hampton; three sons, Laban W. Bartlett Jr. and Robert J. Bartlett of Norfolk 
and Stephen P. Bartlett of Virginia Beach; and a brother, Arthur C. Butler of 
Chesapeake.

     A funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home at 4 
p.m. Sunday.  Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.  The family will be 
at the home of Mrs. Edmonds, 433 Piping Rock Road, Poplar Halls.
