BESSIE L. BARLOW

   SMITHFIELD - Bessie L. Barlow, 82, a retired teacher, died July 14, in her 
home.

   Mrs. Barlow, a Lovingston native, taught in Isle of Wight County School. 
She was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and a graduate of Longwood 
College.  She was the widow of Joseph R. Barlow Sr.

   Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Haverty of Smithfield; two sons, 
Joseph R. Barlow Jr. of Smithfield and Thomas W. Barlow Jr. of Tallahassee, 
Fla; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

   A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Ivy Hill 
Cemetery by the Revs. Donald R. Rhoton and Warren F. Taylor.  The family will 
be at Colonial Funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.  Memorial donations 
may be made to the church of a favorite charity.
