Barlow, of Isle of Wight County, employed by the State Highway Department, was killed early this morning in an automobile accident on the Suffolk-Smithfield Road about two miles from Suffolk, when the car in which he was riding driven by Oscar Winner, a friend and fellow employee of the State Highway Department, overturned pinning the two young men underneath. Winner, who was injured, said a tire became loose and caused the car to swerve into the ditch. As he attempted to right the car and bring it back to the road it turned turtle and Barlow’s head was caught between the car door and the road beneath. Winner stated that two cars passed and that occupants of the first one, although they saw the wreck and heard his cries for help, passed on. The second, he stated, filled with some young men, came up to the wreck, and when he begged them to lift the car from the dying boy said they would go to Suffolk for help. Barlow, Winner stated, lived about an hour and talked up to a short time before he died and even tried to cut his way out with a knife. When help came he was dead and Winner was rushed to the Virginia Hospital, where he received medical attention. The young men were returning to camp after a visit to Morgart’s Beach. Barlow is survived by is parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Barlow, three brothers, Ryland Randolph and J.P. Barlow and a sister, Miss Charlotte Barlow. Funeral services will be conducted at the home near Smithfield, by Mr. Faulkner, tomorrow afternoon.
