JOHN J. BARLOW

JOHN J. BARLOW DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS

   Mr. John J. Barlow, aged 67, prominent resident of Isle of Wight county, 
died from paralysis last Tuesday night, January 22, at 9 o’clock, at his home, 
after an illness of nine months.

   Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Mattie A. Barlow, a son, Hunter G. Barlow, 
two daughters, Mary A. Barlow of Isle of Wight and Mrs. W.J. Lyttle of 
Franklin, Va., and three grandchildren, Mattie Lou, Francis and John Guy 
Barlow.

   Mr. Barlow was a member of Mill Swamp Baptist Church for many years.

   Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon by 
the Rev. Dr. Page of Bacon’s Castle Baptist Church.

   Burial was to Mill Swamp cemetery.  Active pallbearers were Garland, Percy 
and Ryland Barlow, Hyden Womble, James Carroll, Willie Bell, R.W. Stallings, 
Jr. and Caleb Batten.  Honorary Dr. T.H. Massey, G.W. Delk, W.D. Chapman, 
Willie Cobb, J.B. Taliaferro, R.W. Stallings, Sr., W.S. Key, William Key, E.F. 
Lyttle, T.H. Delk, Elmo Batten, W.J. Stallings, R.M., G.W. and W.A. Carroll, 
J.A. and Hyden Ramsey, J.E. Soneman?, Dr. E.B. Ramsey, Smith Lane, G.W. Delk?, 
William and C.H. Nurney, Ruffin Gray, William Atkins, J.S. Lyttle and Joe Gale.

   His father, Junius Hyram BARLOW, is buried there also, w/ 2d wife.

His mother, Isabella C. (GWALTNEY) BARLOW, is buried in the

Additional information gleaned from his D.Cert. (#5563 {Hardy #?}), 
   for which his bro W. Norman was the informant.  Norman & their bro 
   Algernon H. are also marked at Mill Swamp.

John's in-laws are not clearly written in m.rec. (IoW 1892 #101), but 
   they were Algernon F. & Arianna V. (GRAY) CARROLL (m. IoW 1868 #23). 
   Arianna is also marked at Mill Swamp.
