Barlow, of Ivor; seven sisters, Misses Fletcher Barlow of Suffolk, Saralee Barlow of Buxton Hospital, Newport News, Myrtle, Agnes, Billie, Tillie and Fay, all of Ivor, four brothers, Messrs. Clayton and Marshall Barlow of Washington, Arthur and Bobby Barlow of Ivor. Several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. in Mill Swamp Cemetery Isle of Wight County. "The Arms of Jesus" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord" were sung. Active pallbearers were Messrs. Parker Turner of Washington, D.C.; E.W. Barlow of Ivor, C.H. Holleman of Petersburg; Thomas Moody of Norfolk; Ralph Barlow of Norfolk; and Geo. Webb of Richmond. Girl friends of the deceased served as honorary pallbearers. Friends and relatives, with Nellie were in bathing at Cobham’s Wharf, in Surry County when after diving or jumping, Nellie in due time failed to come up; the alarm was given; the members of her party and others began looking. The body was found in about 20 minutes, but all efforts to revive her were in vain. All probability is, that when she plunged into the water, she struck the left side of her head on a log or a stob, causing unconsciousness, which proved fatal. The body was taken to The Smithfield Funeral Home by Messrs. Parker Turner of Washington, and C.S. Delk of Ivor, where it remained until Tuesday P.M. It was then brought to her home in Isle of Wight and there awaited funeral services. Many appreciative visits of friends and relatives, were received in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Barlow, since August 8. Many cards of sympathy have also been received. There were about thirty one contributes of beautiful floral sprays, wreaths, and stands. The family wishes to extend their thanks to everyone.
