He was born in Isle of Wight County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marion Brown; six daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hall of Philadelphia and Mrs. Vernell Gibbs, Mrs. Edna Robertson, Mrs. Nancy Sykes, Mrs. Lauretta Batten and Mrs. Marion Smith, all of Smithfield; two sons, James L. Brown, Jr. and George Brown, both Smithfield; two sisters, Mrs. Mayies Brown of Newark, N.J., and Mrs. Mary L. Young of East Orange, N.J.; a brother, Serge Brown of Suffolk; four stepbrothers, Anthoney Liggins of Brooklyn, N.Y., and James, Carey and John Liggins, all of Smithfield; 46 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Christian Home Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. S.E. Diggs. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will assemble at Pretlow and Chapman Funeral Home, Smithfield, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. ****************************************************************************** J.L.
