Mr. Burns, 43, died of a heart attack in his home Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Mrs. Adeline Burns and the late Peter Dickerson Burns. He was a general farm manager for V.H. Monette Co. He was a member of Riverview Methodist Church at Rescue. Besides his mother, surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eleanor Martin Burns, two daughters, Elner Marie Burns and Martha Loretta Burns, and one son, Irving Travis Burns, all of the home; seven sisters, Mrs. Linwood Latimer of Richmond, Mrs. Frank Lesner and Mrs. Elizabeth Nye of Norfolk, Mrs. William Akers of Portsmouth, Mrs. Randolph Jordan of Smithfield, Mrs. Nat Clements of Suffolk and Mrs. C.C. Martin of Rescue; and one brother, Frank Burns of Suffolk.
