Rev. R.H. Peel preached in the Christian church on Sunday morning, after which the Lord's supper was observed. Many hearts were saddened on Thursday morning, by the sad news of the death of Pernie Branche [sic; Purnie Branch] from pneumonia which occurred at the Protestant Hospital in Norfolk, on Wednesday afternoon. Pernie was well known here having lived near here up to a short time ago, when his parents moved to Norfolk. He was the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Branche, who are well known, as Mr. Branche held a public office in this county for about twenty years. He will be greatly missed at home, and by his many friends for having such a bright cheerful disposition, he was always in a good humor, and full of fun. No one realized that the end was so near as he had been operated on once, and stood it very well, but died in a few minutes after the second operation. His remains were brought up on Friday morning, and interred in the Shiloh cemetery. He leaves to mourn their loss, a mother, father, and several brothers, and sisters. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones. Mr. Trafton Whitley of William and Mary College attened the obsequies of his cousin, Mr. Pernie Branche.
