BERRYMAN BURIED ON SATURDAY Frank Rives Berryman, 75, one of the most prominent men of Isle of Wight County, and a pioneer in the peanut industry, died Friday morning at his home in Smithfield after a long illness. He was born in Surry County of September 6, 1858 and was the son of Nathaniel R. and Elisa Ridley Williams Berryman. As a young man, Mr. Berryman joined Pembroke D. Gwaltney and Augustus Bunkley in the peanut industry, in which they were pioneers. Later this business was merged into the American Peanut Corporation, in which Mr. Berryman held the office of vice president. He travelled extensively through England, Canada and the principal cities of the United States and made a wide circle of friends. He retired on account of failing health, from active business some years ago. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church of Smithfield. He was married to Miss Cora Virginia Gwaltney, daughter of P.D. Gwaltney, Sr., who preceded him to the grave six years ago. Surviving him are a son, Frank Gwaltney Berryman of Smithfield; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur B. Collins of Richmond; a brother Nathaniel R. Berryman of Surry; two grandsons, Frank Rives Berryman Collins, and William F. Collins of Richmond, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Trinity Methodist Church, Smithfield, on Saturday afternoon, January 13, at 3 o'clock conducted by the Rev. F.B. Oglesby, assisted by the Rev. R.T. Waterfield. Burial was made in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Harry Dashields, Fred Barrett, John I. Cofer, Jr., William Cobb, Dr. Rea Parker, Frank Wishart, Walker Pegram Warren, W. Colgate Whitehead.
