Cobb Mrs. Frances Britt Cobb, 85, of Four Square Farm, died Thursday, May 2. Mrs. Cobb, born in Abbeville, South Carolina, was the widow of William Macklin Cobb. She was a homemaker, a teacher at Smithfield High School and a member of Smithfield Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was a member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, the Shakespeare Class, the Colonel William Allen Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution. She also held membership in the Isle of Wight Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Smithfield Library Association, a charter member of the Woman's Club of Smithfield, the Isle of Wight Historical Society and the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross, American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John B. and Jemima Morrow Britt. Surviving are one daughter, Kate Cobb McGinnis, Shipman; two sisters, Mrs. C.W. Stevens, Tampa, Florida; Mrs. K.S Carr, Greenville, South Carolina; one grandson, Bernard L. McGinnis II, Shipman: two granddaughters, Miss Mary Cobb McGinnis, Shipman, and Miss Frances Shaw Glenn, Hilton Head, South Carolina; also several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield with the Rev. Warren F. Taylor and the Rev. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. Pallbearers were Walter W. Cobb, Cecil W. Gwaltney Sr., Jack G. Chapman, John A. Ramsey Jr., Randolph E. Barlow Jr., Stanley G. Barlow, Mayo B. Jones, Stephen T. Edwards and R. Deanie Edwards. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Ivy Hill Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund c/o C.W. Gwaltney Sr., 328 Grace Street, Smithfield, Virginia 23430.
