GEORGE EMMETT COFIELD 

   WINDSOR - A funeral service for George Emmett Cofield was conducted Monday 
at 2 p.m. in Woodland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Moore. Burial 
with Masonic rites was in the church cemetery with Colonial Funeral Home, 
Smithfield in charge.

   Pallbearers were Gurley A. Barlow Jr., William E. Laine, M. Ross Minton, 
Phillip H. Raveling, J. Stokes Kirk and H. Gale Bradshaw.

   Cofield, 60, a civic and fraternal leader, died Saturday afternoon.

   A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Hudson P. and Mrs. Dollie 
Griffin Cofield and the husband of Mrs. Virginia H. Cofield.

   He was a member of the Board of Stewards of Woodland United Methodist Church 
and a teacher of Senior Bible Class.

   He was past patron of Smithfield Chapter 127 of Order of Eastern Star, past 
master of Chuckatuck Masonic Lodge 77, a charge member and past president of 
Isle of Wight Ruritan Club and head salesman for Smithfield Farmers, Inc.

   Besides his wife, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Ida Ruth Holland of 
Franklin, Mrs. Louse Whitley of Suffolk, and Miss Margaret Cofield and Mrs. 
Martha Griffin of Windsor; and two brothers, H.P. Cofield Jr. of Smithfield and 
Robert F. Cofield Sr. of Windsor.
