Chapman, 63, of 2607 Seminary Ave., secretary-treasurer of the Pearl Laundry Company, died unexpectedly Fri., October 3rd, at 1:30 p.m. in his office in Richmond. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Woody's Funeral Home in Richmond and interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Chapman, a son of the late Benj. Chapman and Mrs. Margaret Whitley Chapman, was born on April 2, 1883, in Isle of Wight County. He attended county schools and later the Massey Business College here. He was secretary-treasurer of the Pitts Furniture Company here until he and others founded the Pearl Laundry Company in 1919. He served as president of the concern for sometime but later years held the post of secretary-treasurer. Mr. Chapman was a member of the Webber Memorial Baptist Church, West End Business Association and Richmond Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Bowden Chapman; three sisters, Mrs. A.V. Wilson, of Asheville, N.C.; Mrs. J.S. Bowden, of this city and Mrs E.C. Stump, of Hilton Village, Va.; and two brothers, Clarence Chapman, of Mount Ranier, Md., and J.M. Chapman, of Hilton Village, Va., and his stepmother, Mrs. Maggie Pinner, of Smithfield.
