Fletcher Chapman, 75, a retired farmer, died Friday evening in a Portsmouth nursing home after a long illness. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and a member of Isle of Wight Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Luter Chapman; three daughters, Mrs. Lena Mae Demons of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Martha Nye of Salmanca, New York, Mrs. Mildred C. Darden of Isle of Wight; two brothers, E.L. Chapman, Sr., of Hopewell, J.W. Chapman of Walbridge, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Marion Lee Wills of Suffolk and Mrs. Pansy Gray of Chesapeake; and seven grandchildren. A funeral service was held Monday, March 27, at 3 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home. Rev. William A. Grissom, pastor of Isle of Wight Christian Church officiated. Interment was in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery.
