A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Obie D. and Mrs. Sally Joyner Chapman and the husband of Mrs. Audrey Giles Chapman. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired pipecoverer of Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. He was a member of Peninsula Shipbuilders Association. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jimmy W. Chapman of Smithfield, and Gerald D. Chapman, Tommy I. Chapman, Kenneth D. Chapman of Windsor; a daughter, Peggy Jean Chapman of Windsor; two sisters Mrs. Willie T. Wells of Ivor and Mrs. Edward E. O'Berry of Wakefield; two brothers Lewis H. Chapman of Windsor and W.B. Chapman of Portsmouth; and a granddaughter. Funeral service will be held today at 2:30 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Richard T. Squires. Burial will be in Antioch Church Cemetery near Windsor.
