The son of the late Henry and Fanny J. Chapman, he was a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County. Survivors include his wife, Sally Joyner Chapman, of Portsmouth; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Wells, of Windsor, and Mrs. Edward O'Berry, of Wakefield; three sons, Bernard Chapman, of Portsmouth, and James and L.H. Chapman, both of Windsor; a sister, Anna Chapman, of Zuni; a brother, J.H. Chapman, of Petersburg; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church, near Windsor. Rev. Charles A. Hutcheson, pastor, officated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Nurney Joyner, Elton Joyner, Earl Joyner, Goode Joyner, Ed Turner, Letcher Horne, Henry J. Whitley and Harry Carr. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible class of Antioch Christian Church. Obie D.
