All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Bitten by Spider, Zuni Man Succumbs Funeral services for Willie Thomas Chapman, 62, of Zuni, who died yesterday at 3:30 a.m. at a local hospital after a short illness, will be conducted at the Antioch Christian Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. R.E. Brittle. Mr. Chapman was reported bitten by a spider last week and, although under treatment by a physician, complications developed which proved fatal. Son of the late Henry and Fannie Johnson Chapman, of Isle of Wight County, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Griffin Chapman; one son, Willie Wayne Chapman, of Zuni; one sister. Miss Anna Chapman, also of Zuni; two brothers, Obie Chapman, of Windsor, and John Chapman, of Petersburg; several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill Funeral Home, where it will remain until 1 p.m. tomorrow, at which time it will be taken to the church for services. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Willie T. Chapman Buried at Antioch Funeral services for Willie Thomas Chapman, who died Sunday at 3:30 a.m. in a local hospital, were conducted yesterday at 3 p.m. at Antioch Christian Church by the Rev. R.E. Brittle. The church choir, accompanied by Mrs. Elizabeth Wilkins, sang "Abide With Me." Mrs. Irene Wilson and Mrs. Sidney Crocker sang "Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There." The pall was of red roses and Easter lilies. Pallbearers were Howard Johnson, Grover Harrison, Jesse Thorne, O.T. Rhodes, Whit Mumford [sic; Munford], Horace Pierce, Homer Johnson and Jesse Harcum. Friends of the family were honorary pall bearers. Burial was in the church cemetery. ****************************************************************************** SPIDER'S BITE PROVES FATAL FOR ZUNI MAN Willie Thomas Chapman, 62, of Zuni, died Sunday at 3:30 A.M. in a local hospital after a short illness. He was the son of the late Henry and Frances Johnson Chapman, of Isle of Wight County. Mr. Chapman died of complications arising from the bite of a poisonous spider. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lucy Griffin Chapman; a son, Willie Wayne Chapman of Zuni; a sister, Miss Anna Chapman, of Zuni; two brothers, Obie Chapman of Windsor, Va., and John Chapman of Petersburg; several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home, where it remained until Tuesday at 1 P.M. when it was taken to the Antioch Christian Church for services at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. R.E. Brittle. Burial was in the church cemetery.
