Chapman WINDSOR - A funeral for Willie Wayne Chapman, 36, will be held today at 3 p.m. in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Lindsey Poteat. Chapman, a highway construction inspector for the State Highway Department, was killed in an accident Tuesday. He was a native of Suffolk, a son of Lucy Bradshaw Chapman and the late Willie Thomas Chapman and the husband of Mrs. Carolyn Wilkins Chapman. He was Sunday School superintendent of Antioch Christian Church, where he was a member of the Young Adult Class, Board of Deacons, and the Building Fund and Christian Education committees. He was a member of Windsor Ruritan Club and Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lucy Bradshaw Chapman of Zuni; a daughter, Miss Karen Leigh Chapman of Windsor; and an aunt, Miss Anna May Chapman of Zuni. Burial will be in Antioch Church Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Antioch Christian Church Building Fund. ****************************************************************************** Willie W. Burial was in Antioch Christian Church cemetery. Pallbearers were John Staley Copeland, Roland Whitley, J.J. Lankford, Coston Cobb, John Cobb, Charles Braswell, Rex Alphin, F.M. Turner Jr., Hobdy Godwin, and Billy Musick. ****************************************************************************** At paving project State highway inspector is killed WINDSOR - A construction inspector for the Virginia State Department of Highways and Transportation was killed Tuesday, August 26, when a dump truck backed over him about one mile west of here. According to state police, Willie Wayne Chapman of 48 Church St., Windsor, was inspecting a section of Highway 460 which was being repaired by Blair Brothers Inc. Chapman walked behind a dump truck driven by Leroy Deloatch of 417 Woodruff St., Suffolk. Deloatch, a Blair Brothers worker, was backing the truck toward a paving machine. The Isle of Wight Rescue Squad responded to the accident and a medical examiner was called. The medical examiner pronounced Chapman dead at the scene. No charges have been placed, but, according to state police, the investigation is continuing. Chapman, 36, was the husband of Mrs. Carolyn Wilkins Chapman and the son of Mrs. Lucy Bradshaw Chapman of Zuni. He was also the son of the late Willie Thomas Chapman. A native of Suffolk, he was a member of the Antioch Christian Church, a member of the Young Adult Bible Class, a member of the Board of Deacons and superintendent of the Sunday school. He also served on the building fund and Christian education committees. He was also a member of the Windsor Ruritan Club and the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. Besides his wife, Chapman is survived by a daughter, Miss Karen Leigh Chapman of the home, and an aunt, Anna May Chapman of Zuni. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Thursday in the Sidney Harrell Funeral Home. The Rev. Lindsay Poteat officiated. Burial was in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be given to the Antioch Christian Church building fund. Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home in Suffolk was in charge of arrangements.
