COFER BURIED FRIDAY NEAR SMITHFIELD Mrs. Evelyn Brockwell Cofer died at the DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, January 28, 1953, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Charles J. Cofer, a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County and a member of the Bayview Methodist Church. Surviving are one son, Charles L. Cofer, of Rushmere; a brother, George L. Brockwell of Charlottesville, and a granddaughter, Mona Jean Cofer, of Rushmere. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of the Bullock Funeral Home on Friday, January 30, at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. John M. Hamm, pastor of the Bayview Church. Burial was in the family burial grounds near Smithfield in Isle of Wight County. Evelyn (BROCKWELL; Mrs. Charles J.) COFER, lifelong resident of IoW.Co., b. 1899, d. 28 Jan 1953, Norfolk, age 53, interred in the family cemetery*, near Smithfield, 30 Jan 1953, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 35, No. 35, Feb. 5, 1953 *Additional information: Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. #645, which gives dt/o Claude & Mary V. Brockwell; the informant was [her son] C.L. Cofer. Location uncertain. Her parents are buried in a BROCKWELL family cemetery, on Holly Point Way (Rt. 675), and 4 unmarked graves were reported there.
