BALLARD Mr. Jethro Coggin, age 71, died at his home Tuesday night at 11:30. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Maggie Turner Coggin, two brothers, J.B. Coggin of Blacksburg [sic*], two sisters, Mrs. Polly Vaughan and Mrs. Becky Carr, several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. COGGINS [sic; COGGIN] Funeral services for Jethro Thomas Coggins, 70, prominent farmer of Isle of Wight County, who died Wednesday morning, June 18th, at his home in the county, after a short illness, were conducted Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Colosse Baptist Church with the Rev. Rufus Corbitt and the Rev. Beecher L. Rhodes of Norfolk, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Coggins was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and was active in church work. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Maggie Turner Coggins; two brothers, J.A. Coggins of Windsor and William B. Coggins of Blacksburg; two sisters, Mrs. Polly Vaughan of Windsor. and Mrs. John T. Carr, of Carrsville; a nephew, Letcher Turner, of Fort Monroe, and a niece, Mrs. John H. Carr, of Carrsville. Active pallbearers were Dr. F.I. Steele, Loftin Rhodes, H.B. Powell, Shirley T. Holland, S.H. Redd, Melvin Spivey, W.H. Johnson and J.W. Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Young Men's Bible Class of Colosse Church. D.Cert. 17625 (Windsor #5) gives b. 11 Oct 1870, but d. age 70 years, 8 months & 7 days. The Isle of Wight Co. B.Reg. gives Thomas, b. 10 Oct 1870, son of John & Mary.
