[sic; F.] CHALMERS DIES AT NORFOLK Funeral Arrangements Not Yet Completed; Await Arrival of Sister From Texas Funeral services had not been completed today for James F. Chalmers, 51, who died last night at a Norfolk hospital. Final decision on arrangements was being withheld, it was said, pending arrival of Mrs. Gilbert Olson, a sister, who resides at Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Chalmers was a veteran of the peanut milling industry. He held a responsible position with the Suffolk Peanut Co., with which he had been connected for 16 years. Prior to moving to Suffolk as the industry concentrated here, Mr. Chalmers for 14 years was with the Gwaltney-Bunkley Peanut Co., of Smithfield, one of the pioneers of the industry. Mr. Chalmers, member of a prominent Isle of Wight family, was a son of the late John D. and Mary Cooper Chalmers. Surviving Mr. Chalmers are his widow, Mrs. Fannie Lawson Chalmers, of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Olson and Mrs. L.O. Parker, of Smithfield. ****************************************************************************** JAMES F. CHALMERS Funeral services for James Fenelon Chalmers who died Wednesday night at Leigh Memorial Hospital, Norfolk, were conducted Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the residence of W.P. Warren in Smithfield, by the Rev. William Brayshaw, rector of Christ Church, Smithfield. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.D. MacClenny, George Artman, E.H. Rawles, Pembroke Baker, Dr. C.H. Dawson, Frank Batten, Walter Hundley, Harvard Birdsong, Vernon Hill, Frank Moody, B.B. Briggs, Jenelyn Wilson, Holmes Butler and Wiley Cobb. Mr. Chalmers, who was born in Smithfield in 1886, was the son of John D. Chalmers and Mrs. Mary P. Cowper Chalmers. He was associated for a number of years with the American Peanut Company in Smithfield and for the past 16 years has been associated with the Suffolk Peanut Company. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Smithfield. Besides his wife Mrs. Fannie Lawson Chalmers, Mr. Chalmers is survived by a sister, Mrs. L.O. Parker of Smithfield; a brother, Frederick C. Chalmers, of Wichita Falls, Texas; a niece, Mrs. Helen Chalmers Quinlan and a great nephew, John Davis Quinlan, of Smithfield.
