COUNCIL* Suffolk, Sept 29 - Funeral services for Mrs. A.J. Council, who died Wednesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.S. White, in Wakefield, were held Friday afternoon, at the old homestead, near Carrsville, Va., services being conducted on the lawn by her pastor, the Rev. J. Sidney Cobb assisted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, of Franklin; the Rev. A.K. Lambdin, of Wakefield; Rev. C.E. Gerringer, of the Christian Church, of Wakefield. The hymns, "At the Close of Eve," "The Old Rugged Cross," "Lord I’m Coming Home" and "It is Well with My Soul" were sung by R.M Crumpler, Rev. Mr. Lambdin, Rev. Mr. Gerringer, Miss Blanche Daughtrey, Mrs. Herbert Cobb, Miss Lizzie May Cutchins. Mrs. Council has been a member of Western Branch Baptist Church for 80 years. She had taught school for 40 years in Isle of Wight County. She is survived by one son, Judson Council, of Franklin; four daughters, Mrs. J.F. Rawles, of Holland; Mrs. J.M. Garrett, Miss Bertie Council, of Norfolk; Mrs. J.S. White, 13 grandchildren, and 16 great- grandchildren, and a half sister, Mrs. J.F. Williams, of Suffolk. Pallbearers were Felton Rawles, James Goodrich, Wilbur Ellis, Simons Williams, Rob Hayes, Walter Pond, Willie Winborne; honorary, Dr. C.J. Bradshaw, La Fayette Rawles, John Duke, Reuben Cobb, J.F. Williams, John Baines, J.H. Long, John W. Pond, H.B. Stephenson, Ernest Stephenson, J.R. Hines, C.H. Traylor, Claude Council. There were many handsome floral tributes.
