All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Lawson Carr, 45, Buried October 15 Near Benns Church Funeral services for Lawson Carr, 45, who died at his home in Isle of Wight County October 13, 1955, after an illness of four weeks, were conducted Saturday, October 15, at 3 P.M. at the Bethany Methodist Church. He was a lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County and was active in church and community affairs. He was a member and a steward of Bethany Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Holt Thacker Carr; a son, Lawson Holt Carr; one daughter, Rebecca Bell Carr; his father, Willie E. Carr, and stepmother, Mrs. Mary Fulgham Carr of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Carr Thacker of Smithfield; two half-sisters, Mary Ellen Willie Carr and Linda Utoka Carr of Norfolk; four uncles, James West, Lankford West and Earl West, all of Smithfield, and Will Tom West of Suffolk; one aunt, Mrs. Marian West Chapman, of Smithfield. The body was taken from the Jones Funeral Home at 2 P.M. on Saturday for services at the Bethany Church by the Rev. L.L. Hazelwood, pastor, assisted by the Rev. E.W. Rawlings, Rev. R.H. Shapland, and Rev. James U. Unruh. Burial was in Old St. Luke's Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were William Edwards, Franklin Edwards, Frank Cofer, I.N. Jones, Marvin Thomas, Smith Turner, Horace Gwaltney, and Crawley Nurney. Members of the Men's Bible Class and the Smithfield Hunt Club, were honorary pallbearers.
