CARR 97, DIES IN WAVERLY Mrs. Mary Jane Carr, 97, life-long resident of Isle of Wight County, died this morning at 2 o'clock, after a long illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.W. Butler, near Windsor. Mrs. Carr, who has born in 1938 [sic; 1838], lived through four wars, and saw the country change in customs and manners; the introduction of practically every modern convenience. In her girlhood, sewing was all done by hand, lights were from candles and kerosene lamps, and travel was done in stage and on horseback over rough roads. She is survived by a brother, Eugene Butler, of Suffolk; three daughters, Mrs. W.W. Butler, Mrs. M.T. Holland and Mrs. G.M. Pierce, all of Isle of Wight; three sons, G.C. Carr, G.T. Carr and C.B. Carr of Windsor community, and a number of grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 at Antioch Christian Church by Rev. E.B. White, Rev. C.E.
