Carter Buried Sunday Mrs. Alice Madeline* Carter, wife of Richard H. Carter of West Norfolk and daughter of Compton and Mrs. Sarah Margaret Barham, who died Friday morning at a Portsmouth hospital after a short illness was buried Sunday afternoon in Riverview Church Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o’clock at Riverview Church by the pastor, Rev. P.R. Babb. The casket was covered with a spray of carnations and fern. There were numerous other floral tributes. During the services the choir sang "Sometimes [sic] We’ll Understand" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." By special request a favorite hymn of the deceased "It Pays to Serve Jesus," was rendered by Mrs. W.T. Smith and Mrs. E.R. Skeeter. Mrs. L.J. Hollyear was accompanist. Services at the church and cemetery were largely attended. Pallbearers were: Lloyd W. Savedge, Cecil R. Watkins, Phillip H. Murphy, Ashton D. Mountjoy, Frank P. Carter and Harry C. Minga. That confuses Alice with her sister Sarah Margaret (BARHAM; Mrs. Russell Seth) FLYTHE, buried in Peninsula Memorial Park. Her husband is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. His third wife is buried there with her second husband. His first wife is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Her parents, Compton Monroe & Sarah Margaret (OMAN) BARHAM, are buried in Moore's Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Elberon, Surry Co. (Find a Grave Mems. #23446991 & #23446948). Her maternal uncle Kenie Chapman OMAN is buried in Mill Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.
