Carroll, 79, Buried Dec. 20th At Mill Swamp Richard Milton Carroll, 79, died at his home in Isle of Wight County early Sunday morning, December 18, 1955, after a long illness. A lifelong resident and prominent farmer of Isle of Wight, he was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church and the Baraca Bible Class. A son of the late Albernon J. [sic; Algernon F.] and Arrie Gray Carroll, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Virginia C. Gracey, of Newport News; a son, James Milton Carroll of Smithfield; a brother, George W. Carroll of Isle of Wight County; three sisters, Mrs. Winifred Carroll and Miss Arrie Virginia Carroll, both of Isle of Wight, and Mrs. Martha C. Barlow of Warwick; a grandson and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 Tuesday afternoon in the Bullock Funeral Home chapel with Dr. R. Furman Kenney, pastor of Smithfield Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Bruce H. Price, pastor of First Baptist Church, Newport News. Burial was in Mill Swamp Cemetery. D.Cert. 29006 (Hardy #17) gives son of Algernon G. & Arie Virginia (GRAY) CARROLL; widower of Irene (LITTLE) CARROLL. His father's name was actually Algernon F. CARROLL. He m. Arianna V. GRAY 19 Feb 1868 in Isle of Wight Co. Algernon was a heir in the will of his mother Winnifred CARROLL, recorded 1 Apr 1861. (WB27:310) Richard's will was recorded 9 Jan 1956.
