CRUMPLER OF SMITHFIELD BURIED DEC. 31ST George Madison Crumpler died Wednesday morning, December 29 after an illness of some months. He was a native of Isle of Wight County and had made his home in Smithfield for the past 40 years. Mr. Crumpler was well known though out this section, having been a rural mail carrier for 23 years until his retirement about 10 years ago. He attended the old Windsor Academy and was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church, where he taught the Baracca class for 35 years. Besides his wife, Mrs. Fannie Scott Crumpler, he is survived by two sons, George M. Crumpler, Jr., of Richmond, and Frank W. Crumpler of Suffolk; a granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Crumpler of Richmond, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bullock Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. L.F. Paulette. Burial was in the Whitehead's Grove Baptist Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ralph Griffin, Parke Griffin, Frank Griffin, George Lee Griffin, Shepard Scott Jr., and Rea Scott. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Baracca Class of the Smithfield Baptist Church.
