All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BEDIE LILLIAN CARR DUKE Mrs. Bedie Carr Duke, 64, well-known resident of Isle of Wight County, and wife of Joseph Lee Duke, died at her home Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, after a lingering illness. She was the daughter of the late Matthew B. and Sarah Lankford Carr of Isle of Wight County. She was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, the Woman’s Missionary Society, the Garland Moore Circle and the Ladies Bible Class. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Duke Cones of Holland and Mrs. Doris Duke Johnson of Franklin; three sons, Roger Lee Duke, Holland; Roy Carr Duke, Franklin, and Joseph Matthews Duke, Carrsville; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. James F. Bracey, Sr., Franklin and Mrs. David J. Gavin, Wallace, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) at the Holland Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. E.C. Thornton, pastor of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, and the Rev. Tucker Humphries, pastor of the Franklin Congregation Church. Burial was in the Beaver Dam Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Raby Holland, Cifford Holland, James Bracey, Jr., Elwood Gavin, Bobby Gavin, Sheppard Johnson, Arthur Howell and John I. Kitchen. Bedie Lillian (CARR; Mrs. Jos.
