Also injured in the accident were Mrs. Judy Whitley Duck, 25, a passenger in the car, and two other children, Forrest Duck, age 4, and Wendy Duck, age 16 months. Mrs. Duck suffered internal and head injuries. The children were admitted with their mother at Riverside Hospital, and were treated for head injuries and severe lacerations. Victor Lansing Hill of Portsmouth, driver of the truck owned by Rental Uniform Service of Portsmouth, was hospitalized for possible fractures of both shoulders and of the left foot. Both Mr. Duck and his daughter were pronounced dead on arrival at Riverside Hospital about 10:40 a.m. Friday. The accident occurred 2.8 miles south of the north end of the James River Bridge, 1.9 miles from the toll plaza on the Isle of Wight County side, and about one-half mile south of the hump, according to Virginia State Trooper O.E. Webb, Jr. Webb said the driver of the northbound truck applied his brakes because of a slow-moving vehicle ahead of him on the bridge, and apparently lost control of the truck, veered over into the southbound lane, hitting the bridge on the west side and then colliding with the Duck's small foreign sedan. The Duck vehicle was traveling south at the time. The accident is under investigation. A funeral service was held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Holland Funeral Home in Franklin for Mr. Duck and his daughter. Burial was in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery at Carrsville. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parker Duck of Philadelphia; his wife, son and daughter; two brothers, Wayne P. Duck of Little Rock AFB, Jacksonville, Ark., and John P. Duck of Suffolk; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Duck of Carrsville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sally Scott of Carrsville.
