JOHN GILBERT DUCK 

   John Gilbert Duck, 77, well-known retired farmer and merchant of Walters, 
died Monday morning July 10, in Raiford Memorial Hospital after an illness of 
a few days.

  Mr. Duck was the husband of Mrs. Mary Turner Duck of Walters, and son of the 
late Abram and Julia Beale Duck of Isle of Wight County.  He was a member of 
Mt. Carmel Christian Church, near Walters.  Besides his wife he is survived by 
a daughter, Mrs. John M. Ballard; two grandchildren, Mrs. J. Leonard Rose of 
Walters and Staff Sergt. John M. Ballard Jr., of Panama; Leonard Rose, Jr., of 
Walters; and one sister, Miss Sallie Duck, also of Walters.

   Funeral services were conducted the following Wednesday afternoon at 3 
o'clock at Mt. Carmel Church by Dr. I.W. Johnson, pastor of the Suffolk 
Congregational Christian Church.  Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
