Funeral Service For J. P. Duck Wednesday 

  CARRSVILLE, May 27. - Funeral services for Jessie Parker Duck, well-known 
and lifelong resident of Carrsville, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 
3:30 o'clock at the home by the Rev. Rufus Corbitt, and the Rev. J. Sidney 
Cobb. 

  Active pallbearers were J.J. Bradshaw, Kelly Duke, Jim Wright, Joe Wright, 
Sidney Eason, J.C. Scott, Billy Johnson, and J.C. Rose. 

  Mr. Duck was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and Men's Bible class.  He 
was well known throughout Nansemond county, having taken an active interest in 
civic and community affairs. 

  He is survived by one son, Henry Prentis Duck, of Carrsville, and two 
grandchildren, Henry and Roy Duck, both of Carrsville.

Birthdate from the 1860 Census - Windsor Dist., Isle of Wight Co. 

He m. Sarah Catharine RAWLS, daughter of Elisha & Mary, 22 Nov 1883. 
   (Nansemond Co. #113) 

There were several men in the region named Elisha RAWLS.  Sarah's father may 
   be the one who m. Mary E. GOODMAN 1 Feb 1854 in Gates Co., NC.  He was not 
   the one who m. Mary Jane COBB 22 Sep 1864 in Southampton Co., nor the one 
   buried in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery, who m. Sarah Jane FREEMAN 
   25 Jan 1851 in Isle of Wight Co. 

Sarah's D.Cert. 29-029563 (Windsor #15) gives daughter of Elisha & Sarah C. 
   RAWLS; the informant is not given.
